Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating.

It can happen to anyone, at any time, and without warning.

Nearly 90% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims do not survive.

Survival depends on immediate action.

For every minute CPR is not performed, a cardiac arrest victim’s chance of survival decreases by up to 10%.

Waiting for emergency responders alone is often not enough.

According to the American Heart Association, a person experiencing an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is nearly twice as likely to survive when bystanders perform CPR while emergency medical services are on the way.

Despite this, bystander CPR rates remain critically low -

only 35% to 45% worldwide,

and less than 25% locally in Dubuque County.

The HEARTSafe Coalition offers free hands-only CPR training

to empower individuals and organizations to respond confidently during a cardiac emergency. Our 30-minute CPR trainings are 

100% free and available to workplaces, churches, community organizations, and groups throughout Dubuque County.
